CCS offers a bespoke collections management and preventive conservation service for historic houses and museums. Our team have over 30 years’ collective experience in the heritage sector and take a practical, museum-standard approach to support you in all areas of collections work.

Meet the Team

Teamwork

CCS Founder: Collections Management and Project Manager Specialist.

Helen Sanderson

Helen has over 15 years of collection care and management experience in museums and historic houses. Working her way up through the National Trust from Conservation Assistant to Collections and House Manager, Helen has built an extensive knowledge in preventative conservation and the management of historic houses.

Helen has worked on several building and conservation projects, including being the Project House and Collections Manager for the National Trust’s £5.6 million Vyne reroofing project and Project Manager for ‘Fabric for the Nation’, a £650,000 project to clean and repair the Soho Tapestries.

Her areas of knowledge include: balancing conservation needs with public access, developing and implementing security and fire policies and plans, supervising hospitality and filming events, managing and creating environmental control, and supervision of building work.

CCS Founder: Curator and Collections Management specialist

Kate Walter

Kate studied Art History at UCL before completing a MA in Preventive Conservation at Northumbria University. This was followed by a MA in Art History at the Courtauld Institute of Art and Associateship of the Museums Association.

Kate also began her career as a Conservation Assistant at the National Trust. She soon discovered an enthusiasm for collections management and moved to the role of Collections Officer. In parallel, she worked as a Library Assistant at the National Portrait Gallery, progressing to the role of Assistant Curator. While not working for CCS, she is currently the Curator at Arundells, an independent historic house museum in Salisbury.

Her specialist knowledge is of oil paintings and works on paper, but Kate has also worked with mixed collections. She has worked on cataloguing (CMS, Modes, Mimsy XG), documentation backlogs, collection reviews and writing collections management policies and procedures to Spectrum 5.1 standards.

Preventive Conservation

CCS have extensive practical experience of managing conservation in historic buildings. We offer specialist support for preventive conservation projects of any size, from one object to whole collections.

Collection Management

We have a proven track record of improving documentation standards and can plan or carry out the work required to meet Spectrum 5.1 standards, required for Museum Accreditation, and the National Trust’s CMI.

Broadlands Estate

Creation of a collections store and inventory which meets Spectrum primary procedures.

Supervision of building works. Auditing emergency salvage store and recommending improvements. Cataloguing loans in for an exhibition.

Assisting with photography, inventory marking and packing for transport of the 18th Century Dolls House. Assisting with the deep cleaning of the Red Room prior to visitor opening.
